Last one year has been pretty pleasant for me. I’m happy. I’m concentrating quite well at work. Overall life has improved dramatically. However, people around me are judging myself with their own parameters of success. Especially during this one year they find me in a miserable position, which is exactly opposite. I was in miserable position before.
You might be wondering that what I’ve done in last one year that improved me in my own eyes that is too early for people around me to understand. Yes, I have been doing little unconventional things from last one year that are making me creative, energetic, pragmatic, enthusiastic, and a lot more positivity are on the way.
The most important thing that I’ve done last year that changed my life was a decision to leave my job. I’ve worked with one of the best start-ups in Bangalore, an MNC at Noida, but I was always remained unsatisfied with whatever I was doing. There was no perfect backup, but an un-tested plan when I left my job in February 2018.
I was determined to do something on my own. If there is will, there is will. I have had no money to start even a very small business; I had already left my job. The un-tested plan that was in my mind is freelancing. I’ve made an account on Upwork, and fortunately got my first project on first day of $20, received $15 in my account. It was a good start; it is not easy at freelancing marketplace to get first project on first day. I got first major break-though within one week, and received a grand project with decent per hour payment. This client has been associated with me today as well.
Today I’ve clients from India, Australia, Israel, and USA. Most of them I got from Upwork, personal contact or professional networks. I’m technically not very strong, but deliver all my projects on time with the help of technically sound people around me.
So, what I do? I concentrate on inflow of projects. Do some important works on my own. I do have sound association with people who do help me in getting the things done where I get stuck. Yes, I pay these associates as per market standards. Currently I get Website Development, Search Engine Optimization, Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing and related projects. I do all these things from home with utmost comfort. And I see this freelancing business model as one of the best alternative of conventional jobs, and a suitable solution of unemployment in developing countries like India.
When these all where happening in 2018, in-between I suffered from the worst kind of alcoholic hepatitis. Fortunately, I survived even when my haemoglobin level lowered to as low as three. Everything happens in life for a reason, what I have learnt from this all episode of alcoholic hepatitis has changed my lifestyle for better. Now I’m more connected to family, have left smoking and drinking at all, have a well diet plan, started investing time in learning new things, learning how to save money, and do regular exercise and Yoga.
Today I’m very happy with I’m doing. There is very little negativity in my life now, and hopefully this is just a start of my life.
I’m not writing this to show off, but there is big issue that I want to address. There are thousands of engineering graduates in India who have been struggling to have a decent job. Most of them have pressure of paying education loans that is increasing at the rate of around 12% per year. This is something that can kill a young man from inside-out. My journey of last year can be a ray of hope of some of them. If I can change the life of even ten young men with this article, then it would be the great achieving for me.
